Australian Duo Pedal It Forward For The Power Of Bicycles

This April, Jordan Strahan and Joel Stephens from Perth, Western Australia will cycle the perimeter of Australia for the Power of Bicycles in an event they have named Pedal It Forward. Moving counter clockwise, they’ll stop at each major city along the way: Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Darwin, and back to Perth for a total distance of 14,700km--over 9,000 miles! They hope to accomplish this audacious feat in a short four months.
Jordan and Joel, both age 19, are avid cyclists who use bikes as their primary means of transport. They chose WBR to support on this ride because of its similar passion and enthusiasm for cycling, while holding a culturally relevant approach and creating economic sustainability. Jordan explains, “The title of the event 'Pedal it Forward' epitomizes both the feat we are achieving as well as the cause we are supporting. The mental battle in continually cycling will be driven by the desire to just keep pedaling, just keep moving forward. In the same token, by raising money for WBR we will be helping others move forward in their lives and strive for a better chance in life through pedaling power.”
The unknown of cycling an extreme distance through extreme conditions, such as around the varied climate and terrain of Australia, presents a mysterious adventure. The excitement for Jordan and Joel is founded in this mystery--not knowing what their journey will present. But because they are cycling for the Power of Bicycles and to increase the livelihoods of others, they know that whatever the journey brings will be worth every turn of the pedal.
Personally funding the technical aspects of the ride, every dollar raised by Pedal It Forward will benefit WBR and provide life-changing transportation to students, healthcare workers and more in Sub-Saharan Africa. They plan to raise $15,000 for the Power of Bicycles!
