Team World Bicycle Relief: Don Wright
When Don Wright was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at age 49, racing bicycles had only recently become a part of his life. So when he overcame the cancer through successful treatment, he committed himself to training, racing, and most importantly—living in the now.
Having long been involved in competitive sports and cycling, Don has now merged the two in a way that would make a difference. Don desired to race for something greater than his personal ambitions, so when he learned about World Bicycle Relief, he decided to use his racing for the Power of Bicycles. Don wants to promote WBR both through racing but also as a lifestyle—his mission for doing good seeps in to all aspects of his life.
Don states, “Recent family events and health challenges have made me realize that we need to act on our dreams now, not later. The investment I make in myself through cycling gives me the strength and confidence to extend myself to help our human family and protect our planet.”
Don races Cyclocross in the Masters Category 1/2. His 2012 race season consists of weekly races in two Seattle series this Fall, the Washington State Championships in early December, and the the U.S. Grand Prix in Bend, Oregon.
Don's fundraising goal is 10 WBR Bikes! “I want my training and racing to be about something more than just me. Contributing to the mission of World Bicycle Relief will allow me to combine my sport with something bigger than myself.”
Welcome to the team, Don!
