Team World Bicycle Relief: Scott Boyd

Scott Boyd hails from Wilmington, Vermont but currently resides in Guzelyurt, Cyprus. He's both a road cyclist and mountain biker whose primary event this year is the Haute Route Alps race in August. This race, known as the "highest and toughest cyclosportive in the world", covers ground from Geneva, Switzerland to Nice, France and takes six days.

When Scott was 23, he had a bout with cancer--and he believes it was the Power of Bicycles that saved him. The empowerment that comes with cycling can change individuals and communities, he notes. "Since that time I’ve ridden in numerous rides, races and countries, savoring every turn of the pedals. My experiences, from a solo ride across the United States to competing in the Masters World MTB Championships, have only strengthened my belief in the power of bicycles to move and sustain human beings."

Scott has traveled the world, from the wealthiest of nations to the most impoverished. These experiences have tuahgt him that education and a simple tool such as a bicycle can empower people for change--and when one person is empowered, he or she impacts those around him leading to change in communities and beyond, both socially and economically. In the same way, Scott believes his commitment to WBR will lead others to learn about the worthy cause and join in. Scott's fundraising goal is $1,340--enough to provide ten bikes.

WBR thanks you for your support, Scott! Best of luck in the Haute Route.
