Together, You Made a World of a Difference in One Day

One Day 100 Bikes was a huge success for the second year in a row! It was an inspiration to see such an enthusiastic community come together on Sept. 23 to make a world of difference.

The day of fun, fitness and fundraising in Chicago, organized by WBR volunteer extraordinaire Tom Renaud, included a group ride, spin classes, computrainer rides and a festival. So far, the efforts of more than 300 people have raised over $48,000. That’s enough to provide students, healthcare workers and entrepreneurs with more than 330 Buffalo Bicycles!

World Bicycle Relief was thrilled to be a part of the event. It included 25 active fundraisers, several active bicycle shops, and many sponsors and partners.

Thank you, Tom, and all who participated, for creating such big impact.

The day began with a Morning Group Ride at Johnny Sprockets, sponsored by Specialized. The 52 riders chose from a 42-mile and 30-mile route. After the ride, the group enjoyed a reception from Colectivo Coffee and raffle prizes.

Then the fun began at Fitness Formula Clubs in Lincoln Park, which hosted the rest of the day’s events. The Celebrity Spin Challenge kicked off with Former Chicago Bear Alex Brown and WXRT’s Jason Thomas. Spin instructors Kelly Schoenhoft, Austin Head and Bill Bower held three amazing classes.

The Chicago-Compu Challenge, sponsored by SRAM, FFC and Body Armor, had cyclists representing Half Acre Cycling, xXx Racing, TriMonster Training, SRAM and WBR. The 10K time trials were fast and furious – even on a Buffalo Bicycle.

After getting their workouts in, participants headed to the festival. They enjoyed music from DJ Cooper, beverages from Odell Brewing and Viszlay Vineyards, and food from Jewel, Sheffield’s and Lou Malnati’s. There were great raffles all afternoon, a bike clinic hosted by Specialized, Bike Lawyer and Jim Freeman, and a silent auction. A big thanks to all our sponsors, including Body Armor, Kryptonite Locks, Clif Bar, NovaCare, and Dryhop & Corridor Brewery Restaurants!

What an amazing day to support the Power of Bicycles! Thank you again to all the participants, sponsors and fundraisers!
