It is a rare occasion for SRAM–one of the world’s leading manufacturer of bike components–to open the door to outsiders for an inside look to how their Zipp wheels are both designed and manufactured on site. But on Friday, June 20, they did just that–and all to benefit World Bicycle Relief. People came in from all over to enjoy food trucks, Sun King Brewing beer, live music, and exclusive tours of the facility. An array of silent auction items were offered including custom Zipp disc clocks, two wheelsets, a signed Contador jersey, and a fully built Specialized Crux cross bike. Two of the cofounders of SRAM spoke about their commitment to excellence within the cycling industry and just as important, their commitment to helping others through the Power of Bicycles. The evening brought in more than $22,000, enough to provide 170 life-changing bicycles in the field to help mobilize students, healthcare workers, and entrepreneurs. Saturday’s World Bicycle Relief Challenge at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was in partnership with the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure ride. Riders were able to choose between 100 mile century ride, a 40k time trial (TT), or a 2.5 mile hot lap around the world’s most famous oval. There was nothing but smiles to be seen for all the accomplishments of the day.

SRAM is one of World Bicycle Relief’s biggest supporters. The Tour de SRAM was a great way to share the tradition and legacy of Zipp wheels with the community while also making a difference through the Power of Bicycles.

Seeing how many people within SRAM and the community stepped up to make this event a success was truly humbling. We couldn’t have asked for more from first-time event and are excited about building on it in years to come. The American Diabetes Association was amazing in allowing us to join them in their world-class event. Many lives have been and will be positively changed because of the hard work that went into creating such a great event. SRAM and WBR hope to make this an annual event and continue to grow the participation for both events and especially more riders at the Speedway. We hope to start attracting a greater group from Chicago as well. The date for 2015 will be announced soon.
