This July, World Bicycle Relief is raising funds to help launch our education program in Malawi. As a result, our supporters around the world are rallying to help fund 2,000 bicycles for Malawian students.
Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, this July we were able to offer a 1 for 1 match as part of our Wheels In The Field: Malawi campaign for the first $75,000 raised. Thanks to our incredible supporters, we met that match yesterday. Today, the active travel company Backroads is stepping up and providing an additional $25,000 in match funding to spur further donations toward the 2,000 bike goal!
We are delighted to support World Bicycle Relief’s mission of providing bicycles to rural workers, students and healthcare providers worldwide, especially women. Backroads’ involvement with World Bicycle Relief complements our efforts to promote and improve biking in the communities our guests live, said Backroads Founder and President, Tom Hale.
World Bicycle Relief has been fortunate to have the collective support from some of the leading bicycle tour companies in the world, including InGamba, Trek Travel, Big Mountain Bike Adventures, Western Spirit and Big Island Bike Tours. It’s an honor that Backroads has joined this inspiring list.
When we go together, we go further, says Katie Bolling, WBR Development Director. That’s the power of community. We’re truly grateful that Backroads not only believes in our work but has come alongside us at such an important time to help fund this vital program.
