As we head into 2016, we look back on an amazing third year of the Team WBR Ambassador Program and are already looking forward to the year ahead. Over the past three years, this program has raised over $230,000 for the Power of Bicycles!
Brett Levitt, Team Thompson, and Elden Û÷Fatty’ Nelson led the charge in 2015, raising over $185,000 and having a presence at everything from cyclocross to century rides to triathlons. From the trails of Leadville, CO to the epic climbs of the Italian Alps, they let their presence be known. And whether they were on a quick weekend training ride or epic stage races, they always sported their WBR colors. Their commitment to our mission and organization is nothing short of extraordinary. They continue to use their passion for pedaling to share the Power of Bicycles, and you can too!
With three incredible years of the program under our belts and our awesome Team WBR sponsors signing on for another year, it’s time for YOU to get in on the action and consider becoming a 2016 Team World Bicycle Relief Ambassador.
This January, Team World Bicycle Relief will select another three passionate athletes to spend a full year sharing the Power of Bicycles! SRAM, Zipp, Specialized, Skratch Labs, Sock Guy, Pactimo, Training Peaks, Vision Quest Coaching, Quarq, blueseventy, and Headsweats, have signed on to help these ambassadors create change within their communities and raise funds for bicycles in Africa.
On February 11, three very special athletes will be welcomed to the 2016 Team WBR Ambassador Program. Ambassadors will be equipped with a bicycle, apparel and a ton of gear from our sponsors to help in the year-long adventure.
Athletes from all branches of the cycling community – triathlon, cyclocross, long-distance or anything in between – are encouraged to apply. The goal is to find individuals who wish to use their love of sport to make real change in the world and to use their network to reach out for a cause. Over the course of the year, each Team World Bicycle Relief Ambassador is challenged to raise enough to provide 100 bicycles to students and healthcare workers in rural Africa as well as train 10 field mechanics to keep bikes up and running, a total goal of $15,700.
Think you have what it takes to be a Team World Bicycle Relief Ambassador? We’d love to hear from you. All applications must be submitted by end of day on February 1, 2016 and the ambassadors will be announced on February 11th, 2016.
