Congratulations, riders! The Gran Fondo Hundo 2017 did not disappoint with 62 miles of open road, sunshine and a whole lot of fun at the finish. Even while battling the hills of southern Wisconsin and the blistering heat, the riders were all smiles. See for yourself:
Twice as many fundraisers
In 2017, we had more fundraisers and more donations to World Bicycle Relief than any Gran Fondo Hundo before!
TWICE as many riders fundraised for World Bicycle Relief this year, bringing in 14% more donations than in 2016! That’s twice as many people spreading the word to friends and family about WBR’s work.
How far we’ve come
The first Gran Fondo Hundo in 2014 traveled from Higher Gear in Wilmette, IL, to the Kane County Cougars’ minor-league baseball game in Geneva, IL. It pivoted north in 2015, and since then, the finish line has remained at historic Simmons Field in Kenosha, WI, home of the minor league’s Kenosha Kingfish.
Since that first ride, the Gran Fondo Hundo riders have raised more than $180,000, or 1,225 bicycles, for students in rural Africa. This 2017 alone, riders raised $59,829, equivalent to 407 bicycles. Even though the Kingfish lost 1-2 to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters this year, there was plenty to celebrate.
Immense Gratitude to Higher Gear
We are so grateful for our producing partner, Higher Gear. There are so many moving parts to this ride, and Higher Gear’s staff did an amazing job of keeping them all in motion. Because of partners like Higher Gear, our community can come together and mobilize others through the Power of Bicycles
Only Possible with our sponsors
The Gran Fondo Hundo wouldn’t be what it is today without our sponsors. A huge thank you to Tracy and Ed Benford, Specialized, Saris, and the Kenosha Kingfish for their generous sponsorship.
We look forward to seeing more faces new and old at the 2018 Gran Fondo Hundo!
