Competitive mountain biker Katja Steenkamp is riding the Tour de Afrique to raise 300 bicycles for Qhubeka, World Bicycle Relief’s program in South Africa. The idea of travelling across Africa has been on the back of my mind for a very long time, she explains. I promised myself to realise my dream, no matter how hard and impossible it appeared. Along with my dream to cycle through Africa came the innate urge to use my journey to help those far less fortunate, and especially children. My goal is to raise 300 bicycles for the cause by May, 2016.
Always on the lookout for a new adventure, Katja will ride 12,200 km as she tackles the Tour d-Afrique XXL ultra marathon from Cairo to Cape Town. My goal is to use TDA Global Cycling (Tour d’Afrique) to create awareness for the incredible benefits that bicycles have for children and their education, she says.
