What were you doing before working with World Bicycle Relief?
Prior to WBR, I worked at a niche financial services firm. I started working with their Credit and Compliance department and moved into the Accounting department after finishing my B.S. in Accounting.
What drew you to World Bicycle Relief?
I really love that we’re not just giving away a bike, but we’re providing people with a tool that is useful in so many facets of life. It enables an entrepreneur to increase their business productivity, a health care worker to serve their community, and it allows a child to dream big all because of a well-designed bike and the amazing team that keeps WBR running.
What is a typical day of work like for you?
It varies, which is nice! Most of the time I’m recording our daily expenses, ensuring our vendors are paid on time, and preparing our financial statements.
What is the best part of your job?
Knowing that no matter what, the work we do as a team at WBR is contributing to the betterment of someone else’s life and really making a difference. That and the amazing team I get to work with are what make work enjoyable every day.
What is the most difficult part of your job?
There is always a lot of work to be done, which can be challenging to stay on top of, but it’s very rewarding at the same time.
What is your dream for the organization?
I’d love to see collaborations like working with relief agencies that deliver food and medical supplies via bicycle or working with medical groups to provide preventative care to remote villages. I feel that a bicycle is a resource that can be used beyond the ways that we have seen today, and I hope to see it continue to be a variable in the solution for the various problems our world faces.
What is one random fact about you that no one on staff knows?
My first paid job was working at a bait shop, which I commuted to via bicycle, in my rural home town. I also have the best chocolate chip cookie recipe in the worldÛ_. and someday I may share the results with my friends at WBR!
