World Bicycle Relief is deeply committed to creating long-lasting, sustainable change. Your support enables our innovative programming, thoughtful implementation, and close relationships with partners on the ground, maximizing your impact. Through our programs, we provide specially designed, locally assembled bicycles for students, healthcare workers and entrepreneurs across South America, Southeast Asia and Africa.
Supplying bicycles into World Bicycle Relief’s philanthropic programs created strong local demand for our high-quality Buffalo Bicycles. In 2008, World Bicycle Relief formed Buffalo Bicycles Ltd., a wholly owned for-profit subsidiary, to sell our bicycles to nonprofits, businesses and individuals to meet this market demand.
Social enterprise sales from Buffalo Bicycles Ltd. help fund our philanthropic programs. This allows us to deliver greater efficiencies of scale, distribute more bicycles per donation, and generate deeper impact where we work.
With our unique model, WBR uses local assembly teams, field mechanics and distribution facilities. Buffalo Bicycle shops create access to affordable spare parts that keep the bikes moving. In turn, this creates jobs in the same economies and communities where we distribute bicycles to those who need them most.
Since the inception of World Bicycle Relief, we have been committed to measurement and evaluation of our programs. Rigorous data collection and analysis helps us uncover the efficacy of bicycles in effectively fighting poverty, improving academic attendance and performance, and changing healthcare outcomes.
The more we learn, the more we can do to drive sustainable, impactful change to break the cycle of poverty in developing countries.
