New Racing the Sun campaign aims to empower
5,000 people in rural Africa with life-changing bicycles.
Today marks the start of Racing the Sun, World Bicycle Relief’s (WBR) newest campaign to raise funds to provide 5,000 life-changing bicycles to people in need in rural Africa by June 30.
In developing countries, every day is a race against the sun. World Bicycle Relief’s Buffalo Bicycle is a game-changing solution for students, healthcare workers and entrepreneurs. It means less time on the road and more time to get an education, support their families and care for others.
For every $147 raised, a sturdy Buffalo Bicycle, specially engineered for African terrain, will be donated to an individual such as 17-year-old Scholastica Chepkosgei, who used to spend hours on foot just to get to school.
Racing the Sun will include several ways for supporters to get involved, including:
- An international celebration of World Bicycle Day (June 3) with real-time updates from a bicycle distribution in Zambia.
- WBR supporters and fundraisers sharing their own daily race against the sun in “My Daily Race.”
- Activations to join the race with events, fundraisers and exclusive opportunities.
- A special Racing the Sun clothing collection.
- Limited-edition Racing the Sun riding kit from Cuore
World Bicycle Relief also has a number of amazing campaign sponsors leading the way: CitizenM, Backroads, Schwalbe, Zwift, and a small group of anonymous donors.
The Racing the Sun campaign runs through June 30, 2019.
Help spread the word. Sign up to fundraise; celebrate World Bicycle day with us; and share our Racing the Sun campaign on social media with #racingthesun.
Join the race to empower 5,000 lives by giving them the power of mobility.
About World Bicycle Relief
Founded in 2005, World Bicycle Relief mobilizes people through The Power of Bicycles®. World Bicycle Relief accomplishes its mission by distributing specially designed, high-quality bicycles through philanthropic and social enterprise programs. These purpose-designed bicycles are built to withstand the challenging terrain and conditions in rural, developing areas. Entrepreneurs use bicycles to increase productivity and profits. Students attend class more regularly and their academic performances improve. And, health care workers visit more patients in less time, providing better, more consistent care. World Bicycle Relief also promotes local economies and long-term sustainability by assembling bicycles locally and training field mechanics to service the bicycles. To date, World Bicycle Relief has delivered more than 450,000 bicycles and trained over 2,200 field mechanics in Africa, Southeast Asia and South America. World Bicycle Relief is a registered nonprofit in USA, Canada, U.K., Germany, Switzerland and Australia, and has assembly facilities in Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
