We exist to meet the needs of our end users and to teach others how to build off of our model.
Our clients live in challenging rural environments where distance and lack of transportation options are a constant barrier to accessing education, healthcare and economic opportunity. Our specially-designed, locally-assembled, rugged Buffalo Bicycle has proven to be a simple, sustainable solution to the challenge of distance.
To conquer the rough terrain and conditions where WBR operates, we continue to iterate on our core bicycle design. The Buffalo Bicycle is considerably stronger, more durable and more reliable than when we started our work ten years ago. To date, we have distributed more than 225,000 bicycles to students, healthcare workers and entrepreneurs in countries spanning Africa, South America and Southeast Asia.
To support the execution of our philanthropic programs, a contribution of $147 puts a bicycle into the field. This covers manufacturing, shipping, assembly and distribution of our bicycles as well as programmatic costs.
In the last two and a half years, we’ve made a number of improvements to the Buffalo Bicycle and program delivery based on our end-user’s feedback and field monitoring:
In addition to enhancements to the bicycle itself, World Bicycle Relief has expanded its reach, creating a sustainable bicycle infrastructure in sub-Saharan Africa. We have assembly facilities in Kenya, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe that serve as hubs to support our growing programs and supply chain.
When you donate $147, your investment provides the best possible bicycle to those who need it most. You are helping us expand our reach deeper into communities battling the challenge of distance.
Thank you for your commitment to the Power of Bicycles.
