Hincapie, Vande Velde race in support of World Bicycle Relief

After a grueling eight days in the mountains of South Africa in March 2018, George Hincapie and Christian Vande Velde completed the demanding Absa Cape Epic race with two stage wins.

But the former pro cyclists accomplished far more than that – they also used their race to raise awareness for The Power of Bicycles.

Hincapie and Vande Velde called upon their fans and supporters to donate enough money to put 50 Buffalo Bicycles into the hands of students, healthcare workers and entrepreneurs in rural Africa.

Leading up to the epic trip, Vande Velde and Hincapie shared the message of World Bicycle Relief with their supporters and fans. Even after tough days on the bike in South Africa, they reiterated their plea for support during daily recap videos.

“Riding has been a part of our lives for as long as we can remember. We have decided we want to make this adventure about more than just ourselves,” said Hincapie and Vande Velde on their fundraising page.

In the end, Vande Velde and Hincapie’s community showed their support and helped them surpass their goal with $7,531 raised, for a total of 51 bicycles.

Thank you to Christian Vande Velde, George Hincapie and their incredible efforts!
