Riders take on the Colorado Rockies for WBR

The 33rd annual Ride the Rockies tour, which took place from June 10-15, 2018, highlighted some of the most beautiful areas of the Colorado Rockies. This year, riders were challenged with 418 miles and 26,000 feet of climbing through various Colorado mountain towns.

This year, a group of 15 World Bicycle Relief athletes from all over the country started in Breckenridge and rode through Edwards, Steamboat, Grand Lake, Winter Park and back to Breckenridge. The views did not disappoint, and the camaraderie made the experience even more rewarding.

Thanks to the relaxed format of Ride the Rockies, cyclists could share many miles and quality time together. Riders rolled out at their leisure in the morning, took their time at aid stations (hello, Pancake Truck!) and stopped for pictures.

Pancakes and sausage — sure to fuel you till the next aid station!

The unique setup of the tour allows for plenty of time to explore different Colorado towns, check out the rivers and have dinner together along the way.

And of course, there are lots opportunities for scenic photos with friends! Team WBR members Michael O’Brien (from left), Robyn Betts, Claire Geiger, Jess Smith, Karin Harper and Bob Brese pose on a climb outside of Leadville before dropping into Edwards.

The team raised a total of $35,000 by the end of the ride, and the impact continues as the World Bicycle Relief team continues to drive change year after year.

Congratulations and thank you, riders!
