As World Bicycle Relief celebrates 20 years of mobilizing communities through the Power of Bicycles, we’re honored to recognize SRAM as one of our most enduring and foundational partners. From day one, SRAM has been more than a supporter—they’ve been a driving force behind our mission and a cornerstone of our progress.
SRAM’s commitment to innovation and social impact helped lay the groundwork for World Bicycle Relief in 2005. In the wake of the Indian Ocean tsunami, SRAM Co-Founder F.K. Day and Leah Missbach Day had the bold idea to use bicycles as a tool for recovery and resilience in Sri Lanka. With the support of SRAM, that vision catalyzed the creation of World Bicycle Relief—and the ripple effects have since reached millions of people around the world.
For 20 years, SRAM has played a pivotal role in every part of our journey. From engineering expertise to philanthropic investment, strategic counsel to grassroots fundraising, the SRAM team has shown up with passion and purpose.
Their engineers helped brainstorm, design and refine our Buffalo Bicycle. They’ve hosted fundraisers, pedaled for the cause, and introduced countless partners and supporters to our work. They even opened their doors—quite literally—by offering space and support that helped World Bicycle Relief take root and grow.
But SRAM’s impact goes far beyond what can be measured. They’ve embedded our mission into the very fabric of their company, inspiring their global community of employees, athletes, and partners to believe in the Power of Bicycles to work for a better world.
Thanks in great part to SRAM’s unwavering support, World Bicycle Relief has now distributed over 850,000 bicycles across 21 countries.
As we look to the future, we do so with immense gratitude for SRAM’s partnership. They were with us at the starting line—and we’re thrilled they’re still riding with us, 20 years later.
