Healthcare

Mobility = Health

In 2006, World Bicycle Relief began work with a USAID-funded consortium led by World Vision International called RAPIDS: Reaching HIV/AIDS Affected People with Integrated Development and Support. This program provided 23,000 bicycles to volunteer healthcare workers caring for people living with HIV/AIDS as well as orphans and vulnerable children. Currently, World Bicycle Relief and Specialized Bicycles are working in partnership with the International Medical Corp. to provide bicycles to help healthcare workers treat HIV/AIDS patients, children, pregnant women and mothers facing malnutrition in rural Kenya.

Fred and His Two Wheels

In the hours he is not working to provide for his own family, Fred volunteers as a healthcare provider in rural Zambia treating HIV/AIDS patients. Fred uses his World Bicycle Relief bicycle to travel up to 6 kilometers several times a week to reach his clients. In an excerpt from the documentary film, With My Own Two Wheels, Fred shares how his bicycle allows him more quality time with his patients, as well as with his own family.  Watch >
