Celebrating a $1 million milestone at 2018 Ride with Joao

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

– Margaret Mead

Over the past five years, one of WBR’s most committed partners, inGamba tours, has helped rally its community around an annual ride in Mill Valley, Calif. On a recent Sunday, we celebrated a particularly exciting milestone of $1 million raised by this community for our programs in the field.

João Correia, founder of inGamba, has been committed to helping raise both funds and awareness for World Bicycle Relief. This effort is built into the business plan, and João also recognizes he can activate others to multiply the impact.

At 2018’s Ride with João on May 20, João spoke to the crowd as he presented a $25,000 check for The Power of Bicycles. He shared that what has made him most proud is that he’s been able to “10x” his impact, giving about $100,000 over the past five years. The inGamba community helped raise the other $900,000. That is pretty incredible!

The Ride with João includes two scenic routes up Mt. Tam that drop through Muir Woods and down onto Highway 1 along the coast before climbing back up and in to Mill Valley. With the support of SRAM neutral support (NRS), riders have the real “pro” experience and can enjoy the time with other supporters around them.

Over the years, the group of committed supporters has grown. Former pro-cyclists and WBR champions Jens Voigt and Ted King have participated since the beginning and continue to support the life-changing work of World Bicycle Relief

Thank you to everyone who came out and joined us this weekend, and a special thanks to inGamba for activating their community for The Power of Bicycles.
