SpinDoc Spins Its Way To $5,000 for the Power of Bicycles

This past Spring, Santa Fe, New Mexico bike shop SpinDoc hosted a donation-based indoor cycling event followed by participating in the Santa Fe Century. With awesome incentives from the shop’s suppliers, SpinDoc patrons came together to raise nearly $5,000 for WBR.

“We have been hosting an annual fundraiser for WBR for four years now. We chose WBR because first, it is a cycling organization, and we are a bike shop and value the concept of putting people on bikes. Second, WBR does a great job at keeping administration/overhead costs low and putting most of the money they receive out there for its intended use; and finally because the program is well-conceived and fully sustainable by virtue of the fact that bike parts are made available and a mechanic is trained to help keep all those bikes in use.”

A special moment from the event was acknowledging a cyclist who turned 70 this year and had never ridden a Century (100 miles). Last year, he successfully rode the half Century, and was determined to ride the entire event this year. SpinDoc staff helped him train up, while he solicited lots of sponsors, hoping to be the top fundraiser so he could choose his prize–a high-end, $300 helmet! He rode strong, meeting his goal both in terms of his ride and his fundraising efforts–and then rode home with his new helmet!

Major thanks to the crew at SpinDoc for their years worth of support of the Power of Bicycles!
