The Buffalo One is a durable single-speed bicycle. The Buffalo Pro adds a two-speed drivetrain, which can make riding easier on varied terrain or with heavier loads. That extra gear range can be particularly useful for riders who depend on their bicycle for income. Model selection depends on riders’ needs and the goals of the program or implementing partner.
The Buffalo One has a front mechanical disc brake and a rear coaster brake. The Buffalo Pro has mechanical disc brakes at the front and rear.
The representative donation amount to help provide a Buffalo Bicycle is $185. This is not a separate price for the One or Pro, or the manufacturing cost of either model. It helps support the broader work of getting a bicycle to a rider.
The manufacturing and component costs of the new models remain close to those of their predecessors. Some improved components cost more, while changes elsewhere in the design offset part of those increases. Costs associated with shipping, delivery and assembly vary by country and also factor into the representative donation amount.
Yes. Other manufacturers operate in these markets – many of whom try to replicate our Buffalo. What sets us apart, however, is our product development and testing process. This results in a product that is well-known for its reliability and durability.
Supply chain is very dynamic for us, and because our bicycle is very affordable, we can be affected by many factors. We are lucky to have a very experienced supply chain team that has built deep relationships with our suppliers, ensuring that we can continue to supply bikes as needed.
We do not currently sell the Buffalo Bicycle in the United States. Our sales and distribution focus on the regions where reliable transportation can make a significant difference in access to education, healthcare and economic opportunity.
We have tested different ways to carry cargo, including trailers. Trailers can be difficult to use on the narrow paths many riders travel and can make maneuvering in crowded areas harder. Feedback from test riders and other customers has generally favored carrying loads on the rear carrier. We continue to test ideas against how riders actually use their bicycles.
