GCN shares Lizzie’s story with the world

For 13-year-old Lizzie, who lives in Chongwe District, Zambia, every day starts with household chores. She travels 2.5 km to fetch her family’s 20 liters of water for the day. After washing dishes and boiling water, she still covers another 4.5 km to reach Makangwe Primary School.

Before receiving a Buffalo Bicycle, Lizzie covered the distance to the pump and school by foot. Now, she’s done in a fraction of the time.

The Global Cycling Network’s team experienced Lizzie’s day firsthand during a trip to Zambia last year with World Bicycle Relief:

GCN shared Lizzie’s story with its worldwide following through a series of incredible videos and urged viewers to help provide bicycles to at least 300 students. Their incredible community responded by raising almost $170,000! More than 1,000 students in rural Africa will now have the opportunity to reach school more quickly, safely and with the energy to learn.

But there are thousands more who need your help. Will you empower students with the gift of mobility?
