Malik: Investing in what comes next

Malik has plans for his business. He wants to open a new shop next to his home in Malawi and hire someone from the community to run his existing grocery business. A Buffalo Bicycle helps him work toward those goals, one market trip at a time.

Before receiving his bicycle in 2022, sometimes Malik would borrow his father’s bicycle to source the wares for his shop. More often, though, he would spend the equivalent of $20 a week to use a motorbike.

Today, Malik cycles to the market for his supplies. He makes more frequent trips than he did by motorbike, but he saves the money he once spent on transport – and has the power to decide for himself where that money goes.

Turning savings into opportunity

Malik has put those savings to work. He strengthened his home, ensuring it will shelter his family for years to come. He also opened a second business.

Each improvement he makes reflects his hard work and the choices he’s made.

His bicycle also serves a purpose beyond Malik and his family: neighbors borrow it to get to the hospital. The same dependable tool that helps him stock his shelves helps others reach vital care.

Now, Malik is planning his next step. He hopes to open another shop – this time employing others from his community and spreading the opportunity mobility has brought him.

The bicycle provides a dependable way to get to market. Malik brings the work, the ideas and the ambition to turn those journeys into something more.

Investing in bicycles helps people invest in themselves. Give now and fuel opportunity.
