Our Bicycle Ecosystem
Building a sustainable bicycle ecosystem in the regions where we work ensures that our mobility solutions create a lasting impact.

Surrounding our rider is a comprehensive mobility ecosystem, anchored in the very communities in which we work, that keeps bicycles and their riders on the road for the long run.

Trained local mechanics provide maintenance and repairs; a reliable and robust supply chain ensures steady access to high-quality spare parts; and retail shops expand access to bicycles, components and after-sales services for entire communities.

To sustain this ecosystem, World Bicycle Relief partners closely with communities, entrepreneurs, and their local leaders and government counterparts to implement bicycle mobility solutions and determine how they’re managed.

Local Assembly

World Bicycle Relief employs more than 50 assemblers globally, to build and deliver our rugged Buffalo Bicycles. Assemblers hone their skills in specialized areas of the production, becoming experts on specific components. Knowledge and best practices are shared between facilities, creating the spread of innovation from team to team.

Maintenance and Spare Parts

An integral part of our bicycle ecosystem, our 4,300+ trained mechanics ensure that riders have regular access to quality maintenance and spare parts. Additionally, we operate more than 105 local retail shops, where people can purchase spare parts and invest in a Buffalo Bicycle to grow their household productivity and small businesses.

Community Committees

Implementing World Bicycle Relief’s belief in local empowerment and ownership, Bicycle Supervisory Committees manage their bicycle programs at the community level. At the heart of our commitment to sustainability, these committees consist of a diverse group of local leaders and members that are elected to reflect that community.  The Bicycle Supervisory Committee (BSC) plays a vital role in participant selection as well as establishing and enforcing service-to-own or study-to-own agreements with end users for ownership of their Buffalo Bicycles.
