World Bicycle Relief is an international, non-profit organisation that specialises in large-scale, comprehensive bicycle distribution programs to aid poverty relief in developing countries around the world. Our programmes focus primarily on education, economic development, health care and gender equality.

Meet our Board

BEN WALSH, Chair

Ben has had an extensive executive career as Managing Director, CEO and Chief Investment Officer at multinational health, financial services, and consulting corporations. He is a Committee Member for AusCycling, an Advisory Board Member for The University of Melbourne and has over twenty years’ experience as a Director on company Boards. He is also an avid amateur cyclist and in World Bicycle Relief is marrying his passion for cycling and strong governance with community and giving back.

DAVID EVANS, Board Member

David is the Director of Sales SRAM APAC and has worked within the cycling industry for over twenty years. David is also on the Bicycles Industry Australia Board and is a passionate cyclist, racing regularly on the road and in mountain bicycle races. David’s love of bicycles and his passion for helping others is an ideal fit with the World Bicycle Relief’s ethos.

JAMES SHEFFIELD, Board Member

James is a senior banking executive with 20+ years’ experience leading large-scale transformation, customer strategy, operational performance and programmes. He is currently General Manager, Home Buying Bank of Queensland. James was Chair of  ChildFund Australia for a number of years. His skillset combines strong commercial acumen with meaningful not-for-profit governance and international development exposure. James is also a keen cyclist who understands the power of bicycles to transform and empower lives in developing countries.

FRANCESCO PIAZZONI, Board Member

Fran is Executive Producer and Creative Technologist at M&C Saatchi Group AUNZ, with more than 15 years in advertising and marketing delivering campaigns and digital work for major brands. Born and raised in Milan, where cycling is part of growing up Italiann, Fran has ridden in Sydney for the past 16 years, is an ambassador for a local bike shop and a leading Australian cycling apparel brand, and uses his cargo bike to carry his two young daughters to school and every adventure in between. Of Italian and Cameroonian heritage, Fran brings a personal connection to the communities World Bicycle Relief serves across Africa, his love of bicycles and belief in their power to change lives make him an ideal Board Member.
